The Aruba 7005 Controller is here

After waiting for the past few weeks, our Aruba 7005 Cloud Services Controller finally arrived.  It was smaller than I thought, but don't let the size deceive you.  This baby packs a punch and looks to be a worthy upgrade over the aging 600 series controller we are replacing.

Sorry for the less than perfect photos, the camera on my phone is less than ideal.

New Aruba Controllers on the horizon :)

It looks like the new Aruba controllers are finally getting ready to ship!!!  We have been waiting for the replacement of the 600 series and were disappointed not to hear anything about it earlier this year in Las Vegas at the annual Aruba Airheads Conference.

It's that time of year again to make the pilgrimage to Las Vegas to learn about the latest and greatest enterprise wireless solution - Aruba Networks.

A Case for Aruba’s ClearPass Access Management System

A recent article from the CIO Journal (see below) discusses the security challenges in the workplace posed by tablet computers.

This is a case where the workplace can benefit from Aruba’s ClearPass Access Management System.  (Especially in this ever-expanding mobile landscape, where personal devices have taken the lead!)

Aruba Campus APs: To which am I connected?

Ever wanted to confirm that a specific AP is properly participating in the air?  Or needed to determine which specific AP your mobile device is connecting to?

There’s the “low tech” method... take the device, touch it to the AP, and if the “signal strength” reaches “Excellent” (or dBm is better than -40), then that’s probably your AP, and it is probably functioning just fine.

But, there’s a better way to verify, by comparing BSSIDs.  With a mobile device and a wifi analyzer app, you can see which BSSIDs are nearby / connected to you, and compare that with the Controller.

Troubleshooting Aruba Campus Access Point Deployments

You’re out deploying a Campus AP to your network, and it doesn’t seem to come up -- doesn’t broadcast, repeatedly rebootstraps, never lights up with all green LEDs.  It’s getting power.  Existing APs are working fine. What gives?

Here’s a list of common causes...

 * The AP does not have a valid IP configuration.  It requests via DHCP by default.  Is DHCP available?  Reachable from that endpoint?  OR, if IP config is statically defined, double check settings.  (see TESTING, below)

Aruba Networks Scottsdale Airheads

I hope that you were able to attend the Scottsdale Airheads conference this week, it was a good time and I actually learned a few things.  All of the attendees received an Aruba RAP-3, which is the latest generation of Aruba's smallest remote access point.  I got my RAP-3 home, unpacked, configured and running in about 10 minutes...piece of cake.  The RAP-3 can be used a a traditional remote access point that tunnels back to an Aruba controller, or it can be used as an "instant" AP.  If you don't know about

How to rename an Aruba AP Group

Recently I ran into a situation where I needed to change the name of the AP Group on the Aruba controller. The only way I have been able to find to do that is via the CLI.

Aruba Networks declares the LAN is dead!

We just got back from the Aruba Networks Partner Conference in San Jose, California this week and have lots to share with our customers.  Aruba has annoucned several new products, my favorite is the "Aruba Instant" series.  For smaller deployments, we no longer need a controller to provision and control access points.  The new products in the "instant" line are as follows: Aruba IAP-105, IAP-92 and the IAP-93.
